Tips for Cold and Flu Season

Give yourself a break. Your fitness and nutrition won’t look the same when you’re sick, and rightly so it’s okay – in fact, the best thing you can do with your life is give yourself the time and space you need to feel better!

Hydrate! Sticking to your water goals will make you feel better about your body and more accomplished when other goals feel out of reach.

Choose new goals. Maybe you want to start making a list of things you’re grateful for, or meditating for five minutes every morning. If you’re feeling fit, replacing your workout with something that keeps you focused can be a great option while you’re under the weather.

Slow down. Often, being sick is our body’s way of telling us it needs a break, so honoring that by cutting back on your diet, setting aside your to-do list, or focusing on one thing at a time can be helpful when you’re healing (yes, that one thing could be relaxing on the couch for a show or taking a nap).

When Someone in Your Home Gets Sick

Come up with a backup plan. If you know you won’t be able to fit in your usual morning workout with your child home from school for the week, or that your evening spinning class won’t happen when your partner can’t take school pictures, make sure you have a backup plan in place: a short workout, a different time block, or just a walk walking home from school may be the “Plan B” move you need.

Always be flexible. Even with plan A.. and B… and C…, it’s impossible to plan for everything that happens when it comes to someone else’s life. Remind yourself that it’s okay to stay flexible and move through this season with grace for yourself and those in your life.

Be present. How would you feel to change your mind from uh, we’re going through this again and it’s totally freaking me out to this is an opportunity to spend more time together. Maybe the situation is the same, but if your mind is focused on relaxing with the family – even if the children are coughing in your mouth – that can be a big change!

Know that this is temporary, and it will pass. Even if this season is very difficult, know that you are not alone!
