- Beef. While we love it with ground lamb as well, this is a ground beef nachos. We use extra lean beef for this recipe.
- Homemade Taco Spice Mix. A blend of chilli powder, oregano, onion powder, garlic powder, cumin, salt and pepper. Alternatively you can use storebought.
- Onions and Garlic. Minced garlic and diced onions to flavor the beef.
- Cilantro.For the ultimate nachos flavor. You can substitute parsley if not a cilantro person.
- Jalapenos. Optional for a kick, but you can most definitely skip it.
- Chips. Use your tortilla chips of your choice.
- Toppings. Homemade Salsa or store bought, Authentic Guacamole Recipe or store bought, sour cream, sliced avocados, green onions, diced tomatoes, black olives, and your toppings of choice.

How to Make Beef Nachos
Cook the Ground Beef
- You’re going to start by cooking the beef. In a heavy duty skillet, cook the ground beeg with the diced onions over medium high heat.
- Then add in the garlic and cook for a few minutes.
- Mix the taco spice mix that you made and then add it to the beef mixture and continue cooking until it’s done.
- The ground beef is done when the color of the meat is no longer pink and the beef is crumbly. Finish off with cilantro and jalapeno if using.
Assemble the Nachos
- In an oven safe dish, and serving plate, arrange the chips at the bottom. Use some grated cheese on top to help the mixture stick.
- You can use any type of cheese here. Now pile the cooked ground beef and black beans over the cheese layer.
- When it’s all covered, it’s ready to go in the oven for just 15 minutes until the cheese has melted and the layers have been glued.
- At this point you’re ready to pile over your favorite nachos toppings.
- Start with salsa, black beans, guacamole, avocado slices, green onions, black olives, more cilantro and whatever topping you like.

- Nachos are BEST served fresh out of the oven and loaded with your favorite toppings.
- You can store leftovers in the fridge in airtight container, but they will get soggy.
- To reheat, you can place them in an air fryer at 350 degrees F for 4 minutes or in a baking sheet in the oven for 10 minutes.
- It’s best to reheat without any fresh toppings, and to re-add them once heated through. That includes salsas and guacamole.
- You can freeze the cooked meat for up to 4 months in the freezer. Nothing else is worth freezing as it loses texture dramatically.
- To prepare in advance, the best thing to do is have the toppings ready, cheese grated, sauces done. And the beef cooked up to 4 days in advance and stored in the fridge. Then all you have left is assembling.
