As we move into cooler weather, my home decor gets cozier and more rustic. From a leather throw pillow to autumn wreaths and copper lanterns, here are some of my favorite farmhouse decor finds for fall.

Farmhouse Decor Finds For Fall

I love a neutral home with a similar palette from room to room.

And I also enjoy adding small accents that change the mood as the seasons turn.

While I try not to run to Target and Pottery Barn to buy all new, I DO love to play musical chairs with my home decor and move things around.

I pull out pastel throw pillows in the spring and beach-y decor (like my coral!) and pops of color in the summer months.

For the fall season, it’s all about making things as cozy as can be!

You most likely won’t find me going nuts for spooky Halloween decor on the inside of the house, but I will certainly mix in fall colors like plaids and earth tones to warm up our space from September to Thanksgiving (when we bring out all things Christmas).

When to decorate for fall?

Ultimately, the timing for fall decorating is a matter of personal taste. You can start as early as September, or wait until the leaves start to change color in your area. If you don’t celebrate specific holidays like Halloween or Thanksgiving, you can simply enjoy the beauty of fall by decorating in a way that reflects the season’s colors and natural elements.

While the kids would love Halloween decorations out September 1, I resist decorating for fall and Halloween until October 1. Then, our front porch can be adorned with as many fall pumpkins and scary witches as Thomas and the kiddos shall place.

While Halloween is fun with kids, I tend to like more traditional fall decor — that’s neutral, of course!

What defines farmhouse decor?

When you Google “farmhouse decor” you’ll see a lot of the following accents:

  • Rustic wood
  • Linen
  • Neutral + muted colors
  • Burlap
  • Lanterns
  • Baskets
  • Plaid
  • Vintage signs and accessories
  • Greenery + plants
  • Ceramic pottery
  • Galvanized accents
  • Distressed furniture
  • Black metal
  • Ladders
  • Natural light

Why I love farmhouse decor

I’m drawn to farmhouse because the palette is generally neutral, but there is plenty of variety in texture. It makes me feel relaxed and soothed.

I love including natural elements like grasses, plants, burlap and wood because they bring the outdoors in.

While you’ll definitely find intricately decorated farmhouses out there, to me, the style leans simple and minimalist.

Is farmhouse going out of style?

There have been rumors. I tend to agree with My 100 Year Old Home that farmhouse elements will never totally go out of style because they tend to be simple, natural, and neutral. Kind of like how historic homes are always beautiful. While we may have gambled with black casement windows, I think the core of our home feels simple and timeless.

And farmhouse signs (a la “Live Laugh Love”) are probably already phased out : )

What’s in: Cottagecore

Apparently Cottagecore is all the rage. Think cozy blankets, candles, folksy and vintage accents, tablecloths, wildflowers in vases, and painted canvases for wall art. Think more plants and less wood and iron.

If farmhouse decor is big and grand, cottagecore is downsized and embraces cozy. That’s all farmhouse-y to me, so I guess I am a fan of both!

Farmhouse Fall Decor Ideas

From pumpkin-hued napkins to set out with a Thanksgiving charcuterie board, to copper lanterns for the porch and cognac leather pillows and rustic vases, here are some fall finds to add rustic farmhouse decor ideas for your home.

Eucalyptus Wreath + Fall Flowers Wreath

I love decorating with eucalyptus for subtle fall greenery – this would look great indoors and outdoors (and is a great price, too!).

Grow Candles Fall Collection

Sage, ginger, pumpkin, pear, cider, and apple. These are great to light up your home in a clean, plant-based way and are perfect to gift as well!

Antique Brass Lanterns

These would look so nice next to our front door! We have some older ones from Pottery Barn and they have followed me around for more than a decade. These would look so good styled with white pumpkins and crunchy fall leaves.

White Ceramic Vases

These are so multipurpose and can be set out in a trio on coffee tables, end tables, and shelves with a few faux botanicals.

Linen Napkins

Cloth napkins are a must for any formal occasion, like Thanksgiving dinner. My tip: take them right from the dryer and fold them right away while still warm so you don’t have to iron them! Or simply roll them up with a pretty napkin holder.

Lit Wire Pumpkins

We usually get a few real pumpkins for the porch, but these wire pumpkins from Pottery Barn are great because they last season after season.

Leather Pillow Covers

Say no more. These rich, cognac, leather pillow covers are classic, stylish, and on-trend for a neutral decor vibe. Would love these in our living room!

Barn Door Mirror

I love this rustic mirror!

Burlap Table Runner

I use mine year round, but it’s extra-special in the fall. This one from Amazon is a good price!

Autumn Leaves Candle

I love my Candle Lab candles! They are not too strong-smelling, are made from soy, and have a classic black and white look. Autumn Leaves would be nice for this cozy time of year.

Chunky Cable Knit Throw Blanket in Rust

This blanket is the ideal throw to cozy up with on the couch.

Warm Cider & Cinnamon Candle

What’s fall without a cozy candle? It’s an instant mood lifter. Something spicy and subtle is my cup of tea.

Rustic Galvanized Pitcher

Galvanized metal is a must for farmhouse decor. Fill with a dried bouquet for your dining room table!

Faux Leaves + Eucalyptus

Put some faux or real branches in your galvanized pitcher or an autumn-toned recycled glass vase. The eucalyptus bunch is only $10! A great price.

Plaid Jute Woven Area Rug

Jute rugs are my jam as they transition so well with seasonal decor. We could use a new rug for our mudroom area sometime soon.

Copper Cheese Knifes

These Williams Sonoma knives are on my birthday list – after all, we do eat a lot of cheese!

Shower Curtain

My favorite way to bring new life to a bathroom is a new shower curtain. I love the buttons and stripes on this linen one.

Laundry Room Bins

Every laundry room needs cute bins for pods, dryer sheets, and powders.
