What was your motivation? What inspired you to keep going, even when you want to give up?
My two children have always been my motivation to lose weight and keep going. As a single mother, I wanted to ensure I would live long enough to witness their college graduations and weddings. During a routine PCP appointment, I received news that I was pre-diabetic and would need to take medications if I didn’t change my lifestyle. Refusing to rely on medications, I asked for time to prove I was on the right path. At my next appointment, I had lost 15 pounds and gained a new perspective on life.

How did you change your eating habits?
I’ve always turned to food for comfort in various emotional states, such as stress, happiness, sadness, and boredom. However, I found that I couldn’t stick to any popular diets for an extended period of time. Seeking a new challenge, I made the switch to a pescatarian diet on April 2, 2020. I transitioned to a vegan lifestyle on January 2, 2022, as I noticed positive changes in my weight.

What is your workout routine?
Starting my weight loss journey at 327 pounds, I began by walking 10,000 steps several days a week. After an Achilles injury, I switched to the elliptical, bike, and weight training. Unexpectedly, I discovered how much I enjoyed lifting weights. Although working out alone was tough, I found motivation by attending group exercise classes, practicing yoga on the beach, and joining a run club.

How often did you work out?
I consistently aimed for 3-5 days of workouts per week. Some weeks were more successful than others. During those times, I would even push to exercise twice a day. On average, I dedicated five days per week (an hour each day) to my workouts. Lately, I have been maintaining a rigorous routine of five days per week, with 2 hours of intense training each day. Despite hitting a plateau, I am determined to break through this barrier.

What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
At my heaviest, I was 327 pounds. I am currently 208 pounds.

What is your height?
5’6″

When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
In 2019, I started a journey filled with ups and downs, including weight gain and loss. Despite putting on 30 lbs by March 2024, I remained determined and focused. Now, I’m proud to say that I’ve successfully shed the weight and am only 3 lbs away from where I left off 2 years ago.

Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
No.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
This journey belongs to you and only you. Move at your own speed and take pride in your progress.

What advice do you have for women who want to lose weight?
Keep in mind that fad diets are temporary. It’s essential to stay committed to making sustainable changes. Being truthful with yourself about calorie intake is crucial. Regardless of how much you work out, if you’re consuming more calories than you’re burning, you won’t achieve your desired results. Have a cheat day, but still count those calories.
