I spent last weekend hosting a handful of friends at our family home on Bald Head Island. Here is the recap!

Old Baldy

Last weekend five friends and I spent a long weekend on Bald Head Island. This was my first time taking a group from Cville, and we had such a great time! The downside was that we barely saw the sun so our time spent on the beach was minimal, but we made up for that with plenty of relaxing chill time in the house and playing lots of games. Thomas stayed home with the boys because he’s gearing up for a big golf trip with friends to Charleston in October! I hope he has better weather than we did.

Thursday

We arrived on the 3pm ferry on Thursday. This was everyone’s first visit to BHI, so it was fun to show them the ropes and the major landmarks.

After we arrived and unpacked, we headed to the Maritime Market for groceries and to pick up our family meal for the evening. Plus some chilled Savvy B!

Shrimp + Grits

The Maritime Market family meals are great for arrival nights when you just want to relax. The shrimp and grits are so good!

Beach Visit

After dinner we beelined to the beach knowing it might be our only rain-free day.

Tattoos!

Check out my semi-temporary tattoos! Many of my friends have tattoos, so I bought some of these to try. The island is by InkBox and the butterflies are by Ink Art Link. I really want to try the InkBox pen but I was worried it wouldn’t be a fine enough tip. Anyone tried it? These stay on for 1-2 weeks! The one on my wrist is almost gone from rubbing and hand washing, but the ones on my ankles look amazing one week later!

One of these is real. Can you guess which one? TOP OR BOTTOM? Since I had sheets of them, we all put them on.

Game Night

We went back to the house for games and ice cream.

Friday

On Friday we woke up to rain and started with a big breakfast cooked by our morning cook, Chef Aaron! Eggs, bacon, bagels, and coffee. We loved spending the mornings sitting around the big table doing the New York Times Games: Wordle, Connections, The Mini.

Lighthouse Climb!

By mid-morning the sun was partly out, so we decided to go climb Old Baldy!

Old Baldy and Old Baldy!!

Oh the jokes we made with Aaron.

It’s not too bad of a climb up the 108 stairs.

Marsh Views – so gorg!

Beach Walk

But did you notice the sky? THE SUN CAME OUT! Since there was rain in the forecast all day, we were so pumped for the beach. We were dressed for walking, so we did a 30 minute walk on South Beach before heading back for lunch.

15 minutes of Sun

After sandwiches at the house, we packed everything into the golf carts, put on $50 worth of sunscreen, and headed to the beach. All settled!

And within 15 minutes of sitting down, the rain started. (The hourly forecast had said we had more time).

Half of our group left after the rain picked up, and Julie, Sean and I stayed huddled under the umbrella wishing the rain away. After about 30 minutes of that, we gave up and packed everything up in the rain.

But as soon as we got back to the golf cart, this happened!

We debated what to do and tried once more to go to the beach and it immediately started raining again. Not our lucky day!

And that was the end of the beach for days. The rain kept going strong and steady, and we were actually lucky to get off the island on Sunday because by Monday the area was under major flood watch and roads were washing out. It got a bit scary down there.

Night Out

After showers and reading on the porch, we went to Jailhouse for dinner!

Jules’ for Karoke

Once we were full of seafood, next stop was Jules‘ for karoke!

The bar was packed, and karoke was so fun!

Sean and I sang “Hooked On A Feeling,” the group did “Country Roads,” and Aaron sang a Luke Bryan classic: “Country Girl Shake It For Me!”

Saturday

Saturday was our final day, and we had the most heavy rain. Aaron made waffles!

Shopping Around

We ventured out mid-morning to go shopping at the Maritime. People bought hoodies and hats.

Twinning!

Sardine Salad Lunch Plate

Afternoon pumpkin beer tasting

Burritos For Dinner

For dinner Chef Sean seared chicken and cooked peppers for a burrito buffet!

Movie Night

We watched Where The Crawdads Sing which was the perfect marsh movie! Everyone really liked it.

Next time we’re coming back for sun!

The Ferry

….was quite soggy! But we made it back.

Route Hillsborough

Our car went through Hillsborough on the drive home so we could see mom’s new art show all about the Beatles! Each painting is inspired by a Beatles song. You can see and buy her pieces here. If you have a Beatles fan in your life, one of these would make a great gift.

Paintings on vintage Beatles records

That’s a wrap!
